Astronauts Lovell, Haise and Swigert were scheduled to fly Apollo 14, but are moved up to 13. It's 1970, and The US has already achieved their lunar landing goal, so there's little interest in this "routine" flight.. until that is, things go very wrong, and prospects of a safe return fade. Jesus says it's ill um i? Nat i Saytin says it's aluminum foiled illuminated. In these tense moments humanity united as one. I have watched Apollo 13 many times and each viewing seems as fresh, as fascinating and as gut-churning as the first.
I am old enough that I can still remember listening to the Apollo 11 moon landing on the radio, and how it seemed we held our breath for days on end during the enthralling and gut-wrenching saga of the Apollo 13 mission not very long after.
This movie recreates that intense sense of fear, awe and trepidation that burned in my young mind while the world fretted over the fate of the three astronauts in such peril.
Ron Howard directs masterfully, enabling a brilliant cast to excel at portraying the attitudes and attributes of the early generation of US astronauts and NASA personnel.
Unusually for a 'true story' Apollo 13 is remarkably correct factually and takes only the very slightest dramatic license with minor details. The representation of the spacecraft and the technical settings is incredibly accurate (I believe that the mission control sequences were actually filmed in the genuine mission control room at Houston space center.) The film would still be fascinating, entertaining, dramatic, humorous and emotional if it were merely fiction. Knowing that this superb movie retains all those qualities while being the true story of an event - that I still remember with powerful emotion - lifts it from the realm of good movies to the ranks of all-time classic masterpieces of cinema.

Apollo 13 vpx. There were a lot of cool movie over the mega-box office summer of 1995. I think this is the best. I refer to it as something most people wouldn't call it. Thriller. It's like a pure thriller with very dramatic performances in it. So what if you know what happens in the end. It's the suspense that keeps this moving at the speed of a spaceship. The script is something else. So lines were kind of corny and didn't really need to be told. Like when Barbra Lovell wants to be a hippy for Halloween. Other than the script, this a thriller that keeps you interested because you can relate to the characters. It should have won more Academy Awards that it got. I just watched the first man and am doing my research. My grandfather worked during the apollo missions. He designed the radio relay system. My dad remembers after the apollo 13 explosion that my grandfather was called in and was at work for 15 hour days for over a week to make sure his system hadn't caused the explosion. They were exploring the entire system top to bottom to find out what had caused it. This is really interesting.

The actual transmission said “Houston, weve HAD a problem”. But Tom Hanks delivered the line perfectly.

Apollo 13 breath. Apollo 13 csfd. I have never seen a better movie! It is a story of three brave astronauts that are traveling to the moon. An explosion occurs, and they find out they cannot land on the moon. They must use their minds to figure out how to get home safely. These astronauts and ground crew all had the right stuff- rescue successful, movie is awesome. Reality is exciting and interesting, yet hollywood has to take creative liberties to bring it over the top and make it super emotional- if it is not sex- it is super emotions. I get very emotional when the rocket me proud to be a American but very honored and humble to see what mankind was able to do at the movie and of my generation... Apollo 13 crew. I was four years old when this happened, so I am too young to remember this; on the other hand, I remember watching the Iranian hostages come home in 1981 when I was fifteen which I am sure is EQUAL in its pain, anxiety and suffering.

To be fair to Ron Howard, he had to condense 3 or 4 days into 2-1/2 hours. The DVD has a great commentary by Jim and Marilyn Lovell and he gets into what parts had a bit of artistic license to it. Thank you for uploading this video. It has really helped me with my report on Apollo 13. This video has so many mistakes that I lost the count. Note my one-line summary. This is a docu-drama, ie a fictionalized (slightly) account based on true events. If you want a documentary, watch the old video footage. This is a movie, and a technically brilliant one.
I'm a complete cynic when it comes to realism in space and science fiction movies, but this movie had me believing Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon were in space.
Kudos to the producers. By sticking close to a true story, they have a believable script. To entertain the audience, they used excellent actors and added some drama to the mix. The effects cap it off nicely. Apollo 13 wiki. Apollo 13 mission astronauts.
